The Sony Alpha DSLR-A100 is Popular Photography & Imaging's Camera of the Year for 2006. Equipped with a 10.2-megapixel APS CCD image sensor, the DSLR-A100 has one of the highest resolutions available in its class. It was introduced along with 19 high-quality Sony lenses, and will be compatible with most of the former Konica-Minolta Maxxum mount lenses. Among the A100's most prominent innovations are its Dynamic Range Optimizer image analysis technology and a new image stabilization feature called Super SteadyShot. The Dynamic Range Optimizer is said to provide exceptional picture quality and natural color reproduction, assisted by the Bionz image processing engine, which supports a continuous burst mode for fast-action shooting along with the ability to perform intelligent power management. Super SteadyShot works hard to combat blurry pictures by shifting the image sensor to compensate for camera movement. Add an ISO speed of up to 1600, and you're looking at a wide range of sharp, bright possibilities. And since Super SteadyShot is built into the camera body, all compatible telephoto, wide-angle, standard and macro lenses are automatically image-stabilized. This also allows from two to 3-1/2 stops of latitude in exposure, which supports hand-held shooting at longer shutter speeds than would otherwise be possible. In the end, you have more opportunities to shoot in natural lighting without a tripod or a flash.
