Megapixel: 14.6
TYPE: Digital SLR

Photos taken by this camera

The 14.6-megapixel Pentax K20D is the successor to the company's former flagship camera, the K10D. The camera implements a newly designed Samsung APS-C CMOS sensor. The chip also benefits from a built-in cleaning system and the camera has sensor-shift optical image stabilization. The K20D inherits the tough build and dust- and weatherproofing of its predecessor, and also gets a new 230,000-dot, 2.7-inch live-view LCD with a wide 160-degree viewing angle. The camera has a pentaprism optical viewfinder with 95 percent coverage and 0.95x magnification. It takes Pentax K-mount lenses, and supports Pentax's SDM lens motor for fast, quiet autofocus.

The new single-button Auto Exposure Bracketing option allows you to shoot 3 or 5 shots at up to two stops with a single click of the shutter. The camera offers a burst rate of 3 frames per second in RAW or Fine JPEGs (approx 14 and 38, respectively). Slow it down a hair to about 2.7 fps and it'll write JPEGS until you fill an SDHC card. The K20D features 14/bit A/D conversion and 12/bits channel RAW file output. The camera comes with Pentax's Photo Laboratory 3.5 RAW processing software and Photo Browser 3.5 image browser. It is compatible with the existing weatherproof vertical battery grip for the K10D. The K20D will be available in April 2008 with a MSRP of $1299 for the body only.
