Olympus's 8-megapixel FE-280 offers a f/3.1-5.9 36mm-108mm (35mm camera equivalent) 3x zoom lens and 230,000-pixel, 2.5-inch LCD. The camera provides 21 shooting modes including three underwater modes, and the camera is compatible with Olympus's PT-038 underwater housing. The camera's more advanced features include face-detection autofocus and autoexposure; built-in help guides; Perfect Shot Preview, which helps users preview the effects of setting changes before taking a photo; and Perfect Fix, which automatically adjusts exposure, sharpens blurry areas, and corrects redeye in playback mode. Olympus's Digital Image Stabilization Edit technology uses gyros to track camera movement when you take a shot, and then uses the data to sharpen blurry images. Unlike some more basic FE cameras, this model allows the photographer to adjust white balance and ISO. The digicam's light-sensitivity settings go up to ISO 3200. Video recording has also been improved over other FE cameras, with 640x480 capture at a smooth 30fps. The Olympus FE-280 is available in silver, red, blue or black with a MSRP of $199.99.
