Konica Minolta Maxxum 5D

TYPE: Digital SLR

A more compact, consumer-oriented version of Konica Minolta's Maxxum 7D digital SLR, this camera has fewer physical controls but still offers many of the features found in the 7D, including optical image stabilization. We found that KM's system can deliver a 2 to 4 stop exposure improvement over minimum recommended shutter speeds. You can mount a wide variety of Minolta and Konica Minolta lenses on this camera and use the image stabilization with all of them. We found the 5D's image quality extremely high at ISO 100 through ISO 800, and very high at ISO 1600. Noise levels remain low at ISO 400 and are moderately low at ISO 800 and moderate at ISO 1600. This camera's autofocus is one of the fastest in its class, functioning in light levels as low as EV -1. The 5D offers standard manual and automatic exposure modes, in addition to a modest selection of programmed automatic modes and numerous color options. Among its notable features are spot metering, exposure and white balance bracketing, wireless flash control via the built-in unit, and flash sync up to 1/4000 second with a compatible Maxxum flash. Its hotshoe is dedicated to KM units however, so you'll need a $90 KM PCT-100 adapter to sync the camera with other gear. Konica Minolta has discontinued this camera.
