The 12-megapixel Fuji Finepix F100fd features an f/3.3-5.1, 28-140mm (35mm equivalent) 5x zoom lens and a 230,000-pixel, 2.7-inch LCD. The camera is equipped with Fuji's new eighth-generation Super CCD HR sensor and updated RP Processor, which Fuji says gives the camera the ability to capture images with a significantly expanded dynamic range. The F100fd includes Fuji's third-generation face-detection technology, which the company claims can detect faces not only in profile and from high and low angles, but also when they're upside down or tilted at any angle. The camera has a high light sensitivity setting of ISO 12,800, which is available at 3-megapixel resolution. The camera can also capture ISO 6400 shots at 3 megapixels, as well as ISO 3200 and ISO 1600 shots at full resolution. The F100fd offers a shutter-speed range of 1/1500 to 8 seconds.
Other notable include IrSimple connectivity for transferring images wirelessly to compatible devices; automatic redeye removal; Fuji's i-Flash flash metering system, which adjusts flash intensity and reduces blown-out areas in flash photos; and a Portrait Enhancer feature that minimizes wrinkles and blemishes in-camera. There's also a Dual Shot Mode that takes two images in quick succession, one with and one without the flash, then allows the photographer to save the best one. A Dual Image Stabilization function combines sensor-shift optical system with an ISO boost. The camera also offers Fuji's flexible continuous-shooting options, which include Top and Final modes that save several frames from the beginning or end of the period during which the shutter release is held down. The F100fd is rated to shoot at 5fps at 3-megapixel resolution or 1.7fps at full resolution. It can also capture smooth VGA video with sound, and has a separate voice memo mode. Like previous F-series models, the camera can be used with a Fuji underwater housing, and provides an underwater shooting mode. The Fuji Finepix F100fd will be available in March 2008 with a MSRP of $379.95.
