Canon's 8-megapixel SD870 IS adds updated face-detection and optical image stabilization, a small increase in resolution, and a 230,000 pixel 3-inch LCD to Canon's existing PowerShot SD800 IS. The camera offers three optical image stabilization modes with its 28mm-105mm (35mm equivalent) f/2.8-f/5.8 3.8x zoom lens including a panning option. Canon's face detection technology identifies subjects for proper exposure and focus, perfect for group portraits. The SD870 IS also includes a VGA video recording mode with sound and a variety of shooting modes including underwater for use with Canon’s underwater housing and stitch assist for creating panoramic photos with multiple images. The SD870 IS will be available beginning in September 2007 with black or silver detailing and an MSRP of $399.99.
