Equipped with a wider-angle zoom lens and more advanced controls than many compact cameras, the S80 sits at the top of Canon's Powershot S line. Its retractable optics are protected behind a sliding cover that powers the camera on when opened. This camera uses Canon's DIGIC II processor to minimize shutter lag and shot-to-shot delays. The S80 offers manual and semiautomatic exposure controls, as well as a range of programmed automatic photo modes and a high-resolution video mode. There are numerous color settings and other controls for fine-tuning image parameters, a spot meter, and underwater settings for use with Canon's optional underwater housing. Optional lens converters are also available.
