Canon's 8-megapixel PowerShot A720 IS features a 35-210mm (35mm equivalent) optically stabilized 6x zoom lens, optical viewfinder and a fixed, 115,000 pixel 2.5-inch LCD. The PowerShot A720 IS provides updated face-detection functions such as a flash exposure mode optimized for photographing people and a setting that automatically corrects redeye in detected faces in playback mode. The camera uses Canon's latest-generation image processor, the DIGIC III, and offers three OIS modes, including an option for panning. The A720 IS offers manual, priority, and automatic exposure modes; a shutter-speed range of 1/2000 to 15 seconds, and AF-linked spot and center-weighted metering modes. The A720 IS offers a top ISO setting of 1600, nine-point autofocus, custom white balance, flash compensation, and both first- and second-curtain flash sync. Several color modes and effects are available, as well as adjustable contrast, saturation, and sharpness. The A720 IS offers a 1.3fps continuous-shooting mode and VGA-resolution video with sound. The A720 IS runs on AA batteries and will be available in September 2007 with an MSRP of $249.99.
