The 6.0-megapixel Canon Powershot A540 is essentially an update of the 5.0MP A530. Besides resolution, the A540's LCD screen has been bumped up to 2.5 inches from the A530's 1.8, and the screen resolution has been increased slightly to 85,000 pixels from 77,000. The lens is essentially the same, offering 4x optical zoom (35-140mm equiv.) and a maximum aperture of f/2.6. The A540 also features Canon's DIGIC II Image Processor, 16:9 Widescreen for full-screen viewing on widescreen TVs and computer monitors, ISO up to 800 for low-light shooting, and video recording up to 60 fps QVGA (320x240). According to statistics compiled by the NPD Group, the A540 was one of the top five selling digital compact cameras in the U.S. for 2006, based on unit sales.
