Canon EOS Rebel K2
Price (MSRP): $199.00
TYPE: Film SLR
An affordable consumer 35mm SLR, the K2 nevertheless provides plenty of useful features. In addition to standard manual and automatic exposure modes, there are 7 programmed automatic scene modes. There's also a depth-of-field mode that keeps both near and far subjects sharp, although there's no depth-of-field preview. Among the K2's notable features are a 35-zone metering system coupled with 7 autofocus points, which light up in the viewfinder; a 1.5fps drive mode; a multiple exposure mode; and a built-in E-TTL II flash to supplement the camera's compatibility with external units. The K2 also has a large rear status LCD, although it's not illuminated for low-light visibility. Since this is a low-priced camera, it uses a pentamirror instead of a pentaprism in the viewfinder, which has a fixed focusing screen. It also has a relatively slow top shutter speed, provides exposure compensation to only +/-2 EV instead of the usual +/-3 EV, and doesn't display flash confirmation in the viewfinder. The K2 is compatible with Canon's Battery Pack BP-220, which incorporates a vertical shutter release button.
