(Los Angeles, CA) August 22, 2006 – artfairs inc., producer of the highly-acclaimed photo fairs in Los Angeles, San Francisco and New York, launches the premiere of photo MIAMI December 7-10, 2006 during Art Basel Miami Beach. This new event, which will take place at the Dorissa Building, located at 2751 North Miami Avenue in the Wynwood Arts District in Miami, brings together 50 international galleries exhibiting the most exciting photo-based art including, conceptual, video, digital and mixed media artwork.
In addition, photo MIAMI will present a special "Invitational Preview" section of curated projects of emerging international collectives and galleries redrawing the boundaries of technology, photography, and contemporary art making. Madrid-based curator Paco Barragán and Miami-based Nina Arias will each curate projects. The fair also will feature a curated video lounge, major photographic book publishers and an artists lecture series, including Enrique Martinez Celaya and Carrie Mae Weems.
To celebrate the premiere of photo MIAMI 2006, an opening night reception will benefit Legal Art, a Miami-based not-for-profit organization dedicated to providing artists with affordable legal services, unique events and educational opportunities.
