Though he says he started making photographs simply to document his touring life as a rock musician, Bryan Adams ended up with a successful second career as a commercial photographer beginning in the 1990s. His portrait subjects have ranged from Linda Evangelista to former Prime Minister Tony Blair to Queen Elizabeth II.
He says his time is now "almost half and half" split between visual and musical work. "Music still takes precedent in my life — it's hard to quit the day job," he says. "But I love the creative associations and the different stories I can make with photography."
Here Adams discusses his seemingly different artistic processes, which he says have one thing in common: "It's creating something from nothing, and ending up with something beautiful."
