Fujifilm has given its stylish Finepix Z10fd ultracompact a resolution boost and launched a new Finepix J series of inexpensive pocket cameras in advance of the 2008 PMA trade show in Las Vegas, NV.
The 10-megapixel Finepix Z20fd is nearly identical to its predecessor, but gets a new 10-megapixel sensor, a Sunset scene mode, and the ability to record video in the space-efficient MPEG-4 format instead of Motion JPEG. There's also a new Successive Movie mode that provides some in-camera video editing tools. Although the camera's lens hasn't changed, the sensor switch gives it a wider 35-105mm (35mm equivalent) angle of view.
Fuji's new J series launches with the ultracompact Finepix J10 and J50. Both are 8.2-megapixel cameras, the J10 with an f/2.8-5.6, 38mm-113mm (35mm equivalent) 3x zoom lens and a 153,000-dot, 2.5-inch LCD, and the J50 with an f/3.2-5.2, 37mm-185mm 5x zoom lens and 230,000-dot, 2.7-inch screen. The two cameras have nearly identical feature sets for automatic snapshot photography, including 15 scene modes. The J10 has an edge on movie capture and light sensitivity with 640x480 video resolution instead of the J50's 320x240 limit (both at 30fps) and a top ISO1600 setting instead of ISO 800.
The $150 J10, $180 J50, and $200 Z20fd will be available in March 2008. The J-series models will be sold with Brushed Silver finishes and a Matte Black option for the J10. The Z20fd will come in Jet Black, Wasabi Green, Hot Pink and Ice Blue.
