Camera Review: Nikon Coolpix P50
Mark Lent
When I shot this image, I was also carrying my Nikon D200 and 70-200 F2.8 VR lens. I shot a photo of this scene with both cameras - the D200 image with manual exposure controls and a RAW file. The P50 shot with automated settings and a JPEG file. I was truly surprised to see the images side-by-side and was really impressed with the P50's image performance and ability to hang with a $3600 lens/camera combination. The D200 won, but the difference wasn't as great as I would have anticipated. This image was also shot in fog, which can be tricky for camera meters. The P50 did an excellent job and made an image that's worth hanging on a wall. Exposure was 1/160th of a second at F5.6 with ISO setting of 64.
