SGT Brown at Patrol Base California in the Pech Valley of Eastern Afghanistan. Brown was in the final days of a fifteen month tour with the 10th Mountain Division. His unit established the rudimentary patrol base along a dangerous conduit point for the insurgency. Its presence was hotly contested, and the unit was engaged in 83 firefights over the course of the deployment, suffering numerous casualties.
