Belle and Sebastian: Tigermilk (1996) This Scottish indie pop band has cultivated a specific look in their covers: one or more 20-something hipsters caught in a half-private, half-mugging moment, the black-and-white snap tinted red or green or gold. The prototype for this style is our favorite; Tigermilk sported a barely blue-tinted image of a topless Joanne Kenney (now a promotions executive for SonyBMG) apparently breastfeeding a stuffed tiger (some say Tigger). The image spoofed a legendary banned '70s cover with a suckling kitty, Mama Lion's (see Preserve Wildlife in the Shocking & Censored Album Covers), but the music bore little resemblance. -- MJ
