Beck: Odelay (1996) With a groundbreaking album close to completion and in need of a cover, Beck picked this picture of a high-jumping dog (no, it's not a mop) from a photo book on dog breeds; the hairy canine is a Komondor. "It was chosen almost at random," recalled art director Robert Fisher. "The viewers could read into the cover whatever they wanted." -- JC
