Pink Floyd: Atom Heart Mother (1970) Wanting to move past their psychedelic image, Pink Floyd asked Hipgnosis designer Storm Thorgerson to come up with something "ordinary" yet "off the wall." Inspired by Andy Warhol's cow wallpaper, Thorgerson drove to the country and photographed the first cow he saw. "It's just totally -- cow," he said. Having randomly chosen the album title from a newspaper, the band put the cow on the cover, sans text, setting a precedent for cover art having nothing to do with anything, let alone the music. Udderly surreal. -- JC
