The Iconographic Portrait
Leibovitz: "I'm not a great studio portraitist. At best, my studio photographs are graphic. I can always fall back on composition. When you have a subject who projects himself well, an actor or some other kind of entertainer, you can get an interesting picture, but I don't like trying to make something happen in the studio. It feels cheap to me. On the other hand, when you strip everything away, it's terrifying. It's just you and another person."

Here, General Colin L. Powell, 1991.
