After three months of clicking and cruising, we have found exemplary Websites from ten very different photographers, each of whom is taking the medium into new areas and new levels of communication.

We're all thinking more about multimedia presentation now," says prize-winning photojournalist Lauren Greenfield. A member of the prestigious VII photo agency, Greenfield considers her Website one of several components integral to her long-range objectives when she begins projects -- alongside books, exhibitions, syndication, and even films. Indeed, she launched her site in 2002 while working on Girl Culture (Chronicle Books), her acclaimed book on the social and sexual habits of the modern American female. "The Website provides a whole new outlet that people -- especially young people -- can use to see your work and learn about your work," she says. Her newest effort, titled Thin, will take the idea of multimedia to a different level. A look at a Florida clinic that treats women suffering from eating disorders like anorexia nervosa, the documentary film will air on HBO in November, accompanied by a photography book and an extensive exhibition schedule tying in with an educational curriculum. Greenfield's Website will provide access to that curriculum while promoting her other projects. That goal determined the layout of Greenfield's site, which is straightforward and informational rather than flashy. Designed by her husband, Frank Evers, it features Greenfield's editorial and documentary work, such as the image at left, from a story about a Los Angeles plastic surgeon. Greenfield's site is also integrated through its archiving link to the VII photo agency Website. "By backing onto the VII site, I'm able to add a great deal of functionality to my own site and drive traffic both ways," Greenfield says.
