Convert to Black-and-White:
Step 4

CONVERTED TO BLACK-AND-WHITE, this image looks a little too dark, so now's the time to get the brightness and contrast where you want it. Use your favorite method or go to Image > Adjustments > Levels. Grab the middle gray slider and move it to the left to brighten the midtones. While you're there, give the white slider a tiny tweak to the left to brighten the highlights.
