The Ten Best Movies About PhotographersNo. 4Eyes of Laura Mars, 1978
It doesn't work as the suspense film it was supposed to be (plot summary: Laura Mars-played by Faye Dunaway-is a famous fashion photographer who develops a sixth sense allowing her to "see" her friends being stalked and murdered). And the metaphor of having a photographer develop second sight saps more energy than it creates. But the movie perfectly captures the fashion scene in New York City during the disco era. The real shocks are references to the photography of Helmut Newton and Chris von Wangenheim, which provides a purely visual testament to the creative power of sex and violence.
